Bhutan Cultural Tour 7 Days Itinerary

  • Day 1 Kathmandu – Paro – Thimphu

    Arrival at Paro International Airport (or in Phuntsoling). At the airport you will be welcomed with a traditional khadar and you will meet your guide. Then you travel in about 2.5 hours to Thimphu (2300 meters), the capital of Bhutan.

    After lunch at the hotel you visit in the afternoon:

    Folk Heritage museum.
    Painting school, here traditional art is honored and beautiful thangkas are made. If possible, visit a few classrooms.
    Sanga handicraft shop, where you can buy beautiful handmade souvenirs from Bhutan.
    Motithang Mini Zoo, here you can see the TAKIN , the national animal of Bhutan. The Takin only occurs in the Himalayan region, the head looks a bit like that of a goat and the body looks like that of a cow or yak.
    Changangkha Lhakhang monastery.

    At 5 o'clock you will visit Thimpu Tashi Cho Dzong, after which you will have time to stroll through the streets of Thimphu.

  • Day 2 Thimphu - Phunaka

    Early breakfast and departure to Punakha (1200 meters). Along the way you pass the Dochulapass where you can admire 108 Bhutanese stupas. The distance between Punakha and Thimphu is approximately 77 kilometers and it takes approximately 3 hours in total. FromLobesa we take a short walk to Chhimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility), built in the 13th century. Barren women come to be blessed.

    After lunch you will visit the mighty Punakha Dzong , which is situated between 2 rivers, one male (Pho Chu) and one female (Mo Chu). Due to its special location you can reach the dzong by passing a large suspension bridge.

    Later walk to Khamsum Yuelay Namgyal Chhorten which is located in a wooded area. In the distance you can see the valleys of Hebesa and Kabesa .

    In the evening the opportunity to see the city of Punakha, overnight in a hotel in Punakha.

  • Day 3 Phunaka - Phobjikha

    From Punakha we drive south to the Shar Valley . We take a look at Wangdue Dzong and then you have time to take a look around the town of Wangdue .

    From Wangdue is 2.5 hour drive to Phobjikha . The Probjikha valley is known for the fact that the rare black-necked cranes spend the winter here.

  • Day 4 Phobjikha - Wangdue

    Breakfast at your hotel and then a visit to the Gangtey monastery that was built in the 17th century.

    After the visit to Gangtey you will visit the Phobjiha valley where you can observe the black neck cranes in their natural environment.

    Lunch at your hotel and return trip to Wangdue where you will stay in a hotel again.

  • Day 5 Wangdue - PARO

    Early breakfast at your hotel and then you walk to Matalunchu on a path that meanders beautifully through the rice fields. It is approximately an hour's walk. Lunch at your hotel after the walk.

    After lunch you will drive back to Paro where you will visit Kichu Monastery, Paro Dzong and Drugyal Dzong later in the day .

    In the evening you have time to look around Paro where you will spend the night in a hotel.

  • Day 6 Paro - taktsang (Tiger's Nest) - Paro

    After an early breakfast, we prepare to visit the famous Taktsang Monastery, built in 1694. This is a special day, with an excursion to the extremely spectacularly situated Taktsang ( Tigers Nest ) monastery! The excursion takes approximately 3-4 hours.

    After a short drive we take a walk to Satsam Chorten. From here we walk for another hour until we arrive at the viewpoint of the beautiful monastery. The path first climbs through a beautiful forest full of pine trees that are often covered with beard mosses and sometimes covered with lavishly waving prayer flags. We take a short break at Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and after that it's only a short distance until we see the world famous Taktsang monastery , apparently within reach. The original Lhakhang is built around the cave where Guru Rinpochemeditated. This incredible monastery sticks to the edge of a perpendicular rock that dives 900 meters into the depth to the bottom of the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, flew here on the back of a tiger (Dorji Drolo), who was said to be his favorite companion. Guru Rinpoche chased away the demons fighting Buddhism.

    You can spend the evening freely in Paro. Overnight in a hotel in Paro

  • Day 7 Paro - Kathmandu / Delhi / Calcutta / Bangokok
    We will take you to the airport where you can check in for your flight to Kathmandu, Delhi, Calcutta or Bangkok . Possibly transfer to Phuntsoling where you can continue your journey in Sikkim / Nepal or India.
