Everest Three Passes Trek Itinerary - 15 Days

The Everest Three High Passes Trek is a 15-day adventure that combines the best highlights of the Everest region with the thrill of crossing three iconic high-altitude passes—Kongma La (5,535 m)Cho La (5,420 m), and Renjo La (5,345 m). Starting with a scenic flight to Lukla, the journey takes you through legendary Sherpa villages, the vibrant town of Namche Bazaar, and spiritual sites like Tengboche Monastery. You’ll visit Everest Base Camp, climb to stunning viewpoints such as Kala Patthar, Gokyo Ri, and Chhukung Ri, and explore the turquoise Gokyo Lakes and mighty glaciers of Khumbu.

This trek is challenging yet deeply rewarding, offering unmatched panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu,  and Ama Dablam. Ideal for experienced trekkers seeking the ultimate Everest circuit, it promises a once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan adventure.

  • Day 1 Flight to Lukla (2,800 m / 9,186 ft) and Trek to Phakding (2,651 m / 8,698 ft)

    Trek Distance: 8 km / 3–4 hours

    After breakfast in Kathmandu, we take a scenic 30-minute mountain flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. Landing on Lukla’s short and thrilling airstrip is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas and the Dudh Koshi River valley. From here, we begin our trek with a gentle descent towards Phakding, passing through Sherpa villages, terraced fields, and prayer wheels. Tea shops and lodges along the way make it a pleasant warm-up for the days ahead.

  • Day 2 Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft)

    Trek Distance: 11 km / 6–7 hours

    The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge. After entering Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, we trek through pine forests and ascend steadily towards Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa town in the Khumbu region. On clear days, trekkers catch their first glimpse of Mount Everest en route.

  • Day 3 Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar (Hike to 3,700 m / 12,139 ft)

    To aid acclimatization, we spend the day exploring Namche Bazaar, the vibrant Sherpa capital. Optional hikes include the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) for sweeping panoramas of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku, or visiting the Sherpa Culture Museum and Khumjung Hillary School. The bustling market, cafes, and bakeries make Namche a cultural highlight of the trek.

  • Day 4 Trek to Tengboche (3,900 m / 12,795 ft)

    Trek Distance: 10 km / 5–6 hours

    Today’s trek offers stunning views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse and Lhotse as we traverse pine and rhododendron forests. We arrive at Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Khumbu. Evening prayers with chanting monks provide a deeply spiritual experience against a backdrop of Himalayan giants.

  • Day 5 Trek to Dingboche (4,410 m / 14,469 ft)

    Trek Distance: 11 km / 6–7 hours

    The trail descends through forests before crossing the Imja Khola River. We pass Pangboche, known for its ancient monastery, and gradually ascend to Dingboche, a windswept village surrounded by fields of barley and potatoes. Here we officially cross the 4,000-meter mark, with spectacular views of Ama Dablam dominating the skyline.

  • Day 6 Trek to Chhukung (4,730 m / 15,518 ft) + Hike to Chhukung Ri (5,545 m / 18,192 ft)

    Trek Distance: 7 km / 3–4 hours + side hike 3–4 hours

    A short but scenic trek leads us to Chhukung, a small settlement with close-up views of Island Peak, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. In the afternoon, we hike to Chhukung Ri (5,545 m), a challenging side peak that rewards us with spectacular panoramas of the Imja Valley and surrounding giants.

  • Day 7 Cross Kongma La Pass (5,535 m / 18,159 ft) and Trek to Lobuche (4,938 m / 16,200 ft)

    Trek Distance: 11 km / 7–8 hours

    This is one of the most demanding days as we cross the first of the Three High Passes: Kongma La. The steep climb and rocky terrain make it challenging, but the views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam are unforgettable. After a descent over glacial moraine, we reach Lobuche, close to the Khumbu Glacier.

  • Day 8 Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,598 ft) and Overnight at Gorak Shep (5,164 m / 16,942 ft)

    Trek Distance: 12 km / 7–8 hours

    A historic day as we trek along the Khumbu Glacier to reach the iconic Everest Base Camp. Here, standing among colorful prayer flags and surrounded by towering peaks, trekkers can feel the spirit of the world’s highest mountain. After exploring, we return to Gorak Shep for the night.

  • Day 9 Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m / 18,192 ft) and Trek to Dzongla (4,830 m / 15,846 ft)

    Trek Distance: 10 km / 6–7 hours

    Early morning hike to Kala Patthar, the best vantage point for sunrise views of Mount Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, and Lhotse. After enjoying this unforgettable moment, we descend to Gorak Shep, have breakfast, and continue to Dzongla, a quiet village beneath Cho La Pass.

  • Day 10 Day 10: Cross Cho La Pass (5,420 m / 17,782 ft) and Trek to Gokyo (4,750 m / 15,583 ft) via Thangnak

    Trek Distance: 12 km / 8–9 hours

    Another adventurous day as we cross Cho La Pass, with icy trails and steep ascents. The challenging climb is rewarded with panoramic views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse, and Baruntse. After descending carefully, we trek past Thangnak village and continue to Gokyo, set beside the shimmering Gokyo Lakes.

  • Day 11 Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,360 m / 17,585 ft) and Explore Gokyo Lakes

    Trek Distance: 4–5 hours round trip

    We climb Gokyo Ri, one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region, for sweeping vistas of Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Lhotse, along with the turquoise Gokyo Lakes and Ngozumpa Glacier. Optional hikes to the 4th and 5th Gokyo Lakes add even more adventure before returning to Gokyo village.

  • Day 12 Cross Renjo La Pass (5,345 m / 17,536 ft) and Trek to Marlung (4,210 m / 13,812 ft)

    We cross the final of the Three High Passes: Renjo La, which offers spectacular views of Everest, Rolwaling Himal, and Gokyo Lakes. The descent is long but rewarding, as we trek through yak pastures and eventually reach the peaceful village of Marlung.

  • Day 13 Day 13: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft)

    Today’s trek is easier, with a gradual descent through Sherpa villages, forests, and riverside trails. Returning to Namche Bazaar feels celebratory, as we enjoy comfort, good food, and perhaps a hot shower after many days in the high mountains.

  • Day 14 Trek to Lukla (2,800 m / 9,186 ft)

  • Day 15 Fly Back to Kathmandu (1,330 m / 4,363 ft)

    We take an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, with one last chance to admire the Himalayan peaks from above. On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for rest, shopping, or celebration in the capital city.
