Helambu Trek Itinerary - 6 Days

  • Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,330m / 4,364ft)

    Your journey begins as you land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. Our team will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. The vibrant streets of Thamel await, filled with trekking shops, local cafés, and cultural handicraft stores.

    In the evening, you will attend a briefing session where your trekking guide explains the route, permits, and safety tips. A welcome dinner featuring traditional Nepali cuisine is organized to give you a warm start.

  • Day 2 Kathmandu – Drive to Sundarijal – Trek to Chisapani (2,320m / 7,610ft)

    After breakfast, we drive about 1–1.5 hours to Sundarijal, the gateway to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The trek begins with stone steps leading through forests, waterfalls, and a hydropower station. We pass through Mulkharka village, home to the Tamang community, before continuing uphill.

    The trail gradually ascends through rhododendron and oak forests, with the sound of birdsong all around. By afternoon, we arrive at Chisapani, a charming hilltop village famous for its sunrise and sunset views over the Langtang Himalayas.

  • Day 3 Chisapani to Kutumsang (2,446m / 8,025ft)

    Today’s trek takes us through forests of oak, rhododendron, and pine. We descend first, then ascend gradually along ridges with panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges to the north and green hills to the south.

    We pass through small settlements such as Pati Bhanjyang and Gul Bhanjyang, where you can see traditional farming practices and local lifestyle. After several ups and downs, we reach Kutumsang, a lovely Tamang village surrounded by forests and fields.

  • Day 4 Kutumsang to Thadepati (3,650m / 11,975ft)

    After breakfast, we begin with a steep climb above Kutumsang through dense forests of fir and rhododendron. The higher we climb, the clearer the mountain views become. This section is one of the most scenic in the Helambu region.

    As we reach Thadepati Pass (3,650m), the horizon opens up to spectacular views of the Langtang Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Gosaikunda peaks, and Jugal Himal range. Thadepati is a high ridge settlement, often surrounded by prayer flags fluttering in the Himalayan breeze.

  • Day 5 Thadepati – Melamchi Gaon – Tarkeghyang (2,743m / 9,000ft)

    From Thadepati, we descend steeply through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests. After a couple of hours, we reach Melamchi Gaon, a Sherpa village where you can see traditional Buddhist homes, prayer wheels, and monasteries.

    After a short exploration, we continue towards Tarkeghyang, one of the largest Sherpa settlements in the region. Known as the “Village of Monasteries,” Tarkeghyang is home to ancient Buddhist monasteries and gompas. This is a culturally rich village where you can experience the Sherpa way of life firsthand.

  • Day 6 Tarkeghyang to Timbu (1,500m / 4,921ft)

    We leave Tarkeghyang and descend gradually through forests and farmlands. The trail passes several smaller villages, giving you an opportunity to interact with locals. You’ll see terraced fields of barley, maize, and potatoes.

    After a few hours of trekking, we reach Timbu, a riverside village located near the Melamchi River. The trek ends here.

  • Day 7 Timbu – Drive back to Kathmandu (1,330m / 4,364ft)

    After breakfast, we board a vehicle and drive back to Kathmandu along scenic mountain roads. The drive takes about 5–6 hours, offering views of terraced hills, rivers, and rural settlements.

    Back in Kathmandu, you can relax, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy a farewell dinner in the evening.
