Langtang Helambu Gosainkunda Trek - 14 Days - Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 ArrivaArrival in Kathmandu (1,350 m / 4,429 ft)l Kathmandu
Day 2 Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,460 m / 4,790 ft) – 7 to 8 hours
Today begins with a scenic drive through winding roads, terraced hillsides, and riverside villages. The road offers views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and the Langtang range in the distance. After about 7–8 hours, you arrive at Syabrubesi, a bustling village that serves as the gateway to Langtang Valley. Overnight in a teahouse.
Day 5 Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m / 12,697 ft) – 3 to 4 hours
A shorter trek day brings you to Kyanjin Gompa, one of the highlights of the Langtang Valley. The trail passes through yak pastures, small chortens, and mani walls before reaching the picturesque village. Surrounded by towering peaks, Kyanjin Gompa is famous for its Buddhist monastery and traditional cheese factory. In the afternoon, you can explore the village or take a short acclimatization hike.
Day 6 Acclimatization Day – Hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m / 15,659 ft) or Tserko Ri (5,000 m / 16,404 ft)
Spend the day acclimatizing with an optional hike to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri. These vantage points offer breathtaking 360° views of snowcapped mountains, including Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, Dorje Lakpa, and even Shishapangma in Tibet. Returning to Kyanjin Gompa, you can visit the cheese factory or relax with the locals. Overnight stay in the village.
Day 7 Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,470 m / 8,104 ft) – 6 to 7 hours
After soaking in the beauty of Langtang, retrace your steps back down the valley. The descent passes Langtang Village and lush forests before reaching Lama Hotel. The downhill trail makes the day easier, with plenty of time to enjoy the changing landscapes.
Day 8 Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2,230 m / 7,316 ft) – 6 hours
Leaving Lama Hotel, the trail descends to the Langtang Khola and then climbs steadily towards Thulo Syabru, a charming Tamang village. This is an excellent place to experience local traditions, visit monasteries, and enjoy panoramic views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal.
Day 9 Thulo Syabru to Chandanbari (Sing Gompa) (3,250 m / 10,663 ft) – 5 to 6 hours
Today’s trek passes through lush rhododendron and pine forests as you gradually ascend to Chandanbari, also known as Sing Gompa. This village is famous for its monastery and yak cheese factory, where trekkers can taste fresh Himalayan cheese.
Day 10 Chandanbari to Gosainkunda (4,380 m / 14,370 ft) – 5 to 6 hours
The trail climbs steeply through alpine terrain, eventually leading to the sacred Gosainkunda Lakes. Set against rugged mountain backdrops, these glacial lakes are revered as holy by both Hindus and Buddhists. Thousands of pilgrims visit during the Janai Purnima festival in August. Spending the night here offers an unforgettable spiritual and scenic experience.
Day 11 Gosainkunda to Ghopte (3,530 m / 11,581 ft) via Lauribina La Pass (4,610 m / 15,124 ft) – 6 to 7 hours
Today is one of the most adventurous days of the trek. You begin with a climb to Lauribina La Pass (4,610 m), the highest point of the journey. From the pass, enjoy panoramic views of Himalayan ranges and distant Tibetan plateaus. The trail then descends steeply through rocky paths to reach Ghopte, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 12 Ghopte to Thadepati (3,690 m / 12,106 ft) – 4 to 5 hours
The trail continues through rhododendron and juniper forests, eventually reaching the open ridges of Thadepati. This village offers breathtaking views of Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar, and Jugal Himal. Thadepati is also an important trail junction between Helambu and Gosainkunda routes.
Day 13 Thadepati to Melamchi Ghyang (2,530 m / 8,300 ft) – 5 to 6 hours
A steady descent brings you into the Helambu region, home to the Hyolmo people. Melamchi Ghyang is a beautiful village with stone houses, terraced fields, and monasteries. This area is less crowded, allowing for authentic cultural immersion.
Day 14 Melamchi Ghyang to Timbu (1,580 m / 5,183 ft) – 4 to 5 hours, then drive to Kathmandu (1,350 m / 4,429 ft) – 5 to 6 hours
The final day of trekking descends gradually through forests and terraced farmlands to reach Timbu. From here, a private vehicle will take you back to Kathmandu, where you can celebrate your trek with a farewell dinner.
