Mera Peak Climbing Detailed Itinerary - 16 Days

The Mera Peak Climbing (6,476 m) is one of Nepal’s most exhilarating high-altitude adventures — an ideal climb for trekkers looking to take their Himalayan journey beyond trekking into mountaineering. This 18-day itinerary with Hikers Haven leads you from the lush valleys of the lower Khumbu region to the remote alpine world of the Mera Glacier. Passing through rhododendron forests, Sherpa villages, and high mountain passes, you’ll gradually gain altitude before attempting the summit of Mera Peak, the highest trekking peak in Nepal. With full acclimatization, pre-climb training, and expert Sherpa guidance, this expedition combines challenge, beauty, and culture into one unforgettable Himalayan experience.

  • Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m / 4,593ft)

    Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu. Spend the evening exploring the vibrant streets of Thamel, a hub for trekkers and mountaineers, and later join the Hikers Haven team for a traditional Nepali welcome dinner and briefing about your upcoming climb.

  • Day 02 Fly to Lukla (2,840m / 9,318ft) and trek to Paiya (2,730m / 8,957ft)

    Take an early morning flight to Lukla, offering spectacular views of the Himalayas. After meeting the porters and crew, begin trekking through lush forests and across the Handi Khola river to Surke village. Continue ascending through small settlements and cross Chutok La Pass (2,945m) before descending to Paiya.

  • Day 03 Trek to Panggom (2,846m / 9,337ft)

    The trail descends through a small bridge before climbing steeply to Kari La Pass (3,145m). You’ll walk through bamboo and rhododendron forests while enjoying views of the Dudh Koshi Valley. The final stretch leads you to the picturesque Sherpa village of Panggom, surrounded by terraced hillsides.

  • Day 04 Trek to Ningsow (2,860m / 9,383ft)

    After breakfast, ascend to Panggom La Pass (3,174m) and descend towards Peseng Kharka Khola. Cross several small streams and ridges before reaching Ningsow village, nestled amidst dense forests. Today’s trail is filled with ascents and descents, offering glimpses of the higher Himalayan peaks.

  • Day 05 Trek to Chhatra Khola (2,800m / 9,186ft)

    The route climbs and descends several times before reaching Ramailo Danda, where you get the first clear view of Mera Peak. From here, enter the Makalu Barun National Park, following the tranquil Pasang Lhamu Trail. Keep an eye out for rare wildlife like the red panda as you descend to Chhatra Khola.

  • Day 06 Trek to Kothe (3,691m / 12,109ft)

    Head north following the Majang Khola, joining another trail alongside the Hinku Khola. Pass the seasonal settlement of Tashing Ongma and cross a suspension bridge over Sanu Khola to reach Kothe, a serene riverside village surrounded by pine forests.

  • Day 07 Trek to Thangnak (4,358m / 14,297ft)

    Continue along the ridge of Hinku Khola, with majestic views of Mera Peak ahead. Stop at Gondishung, a summer herders’ settlement, and visit the 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gompa, where climbers traditionally offer prayers for safe ascent. A short walk from here leads to Thaknak.

  • Day 08 Trek to Khare (5,045m / 16,552ft)

    Ascend gradually along the lateral moraine of the Dig Glacier toward Dig Kharka, with beautiful views of Charpate Himal. Continue climbing through moraines of Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers before reaching Khare, the base for Mera Peak training and acclimatization.

  • Day 09 Acclimatization and pre-climb training at Khare (5,045m / 16,552ft)

    Spend the day resting and preparing for the climb ahead. Your Sherpa guides will conduct a hands-on training session on mountaineering techniques — including the use of crampons, ice axe, harness, ropes, and ascenders. Practice climbing on nearby slopes to gain confidence before heading higher.

  • Day 10 Trek to Mera High Camp (5,780m / 18,963ft)

    Trek over rocky and icy terrain to reach Mera La Pass, offering magnificent views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. Continue climbing along the glacier to reach Mera High Camp, set on a sheltered rock ledge. The sunset views from here are awe-inspiring.

  • Day 11 Summit Mera Peak (6,476m / 21,247ft) and return to Khare (5,045m / 16,552ft)

    Begin before dawn around 2 a.m., roped up and equipped for the climb. Gradually ascend the glacier to reach a steep ridge just below the summit. With steady steps, reach the top of Mera Peak, the highest trekking peak in Nepal. From the summit, admire the panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga. After celebrating and taking photos, descend carefully back to Khare.

  • Day 12 Reserve/Contingency Day for Summit

  • Day 13 Trek to Kothe (3,691m / 12,109ft)

    Retrace your steps from Khare down the valley to Kothe, following the Hinku Khola. Enjoy relaxed walking with plenty of time to admire the changing scenery as you descend from the icy heights to the green valleys.

  • Day 14 Trek to Thuli Kharka (4,300m / 14,107ft)

    Cross several tributaries of the Inkhu Khola, pass chortens and prayer flags, and climb steadily to Thuli Kharka, a scenic spot overlooking the Hinku Valley. The views of Mera Peak from here are particularly rewarding.
