About Nar Phu Tilicho Trek

A topper in our program! A fantastic trip to a remote valley near the border with Tibet. This is an area of mani walls, Tibetan monasteries, chörtens and waving prayer flags. Until recently this area was forbidden territory for foreigners. In the very authentic villages of Nar and Phu, you will be welcomed with surprised looks from the Tibetan residents. We visit Tashi Gompa, one of the oldest monasteries in the Nepalese Himalayas. Now well acclimatized we pass the 5300 meter high Kang La. The views of the Annapurna chain are fabulously beautiful. After the descent, we leave the usual Annapurna trail at Manang to slowly ascend via Kangshar to Tilicho Lake (4900m), one of the highest lakes in the world. The lake is completely surrounded by the giants of the Himalayas.

The first 5 days of this tour are the same as those of the Annapurna route. Along the banks of the Marsyangdi Khola, we slowly walk up through rice fields and small villages. At Koto we leave the Annapurna trail in a northerly direction. Here we enter the former forbidden area and need a special permit.
We follow the Nar Khola through a spectacular valley with perpendicular walls. We overlook the Lamjung Himal and Annapurnas in the south. In the completely isolated village of Phu, which is built on a rock hill, we visit the local monastery Tashi Lakang. Phu is a full Tibetan village. Colorful prayer flags flutter on the roofs of every house. We stay an extra day here to explore the village and get to know the residents of this beautiful village. Three days later we are in the second village of the remote valley, Nargaon. Here too we take a day to view it. Because we are now well acclimatized, crossing the Kang La presents few problems. On the pass, the views of the Annapurna chain are overwhelming. In Manang, we enjoy a day of "luxury" and visit the beautifully situated village of Braga and its very beautiful monastery. From Manang, we do not follow the usual route towards the Thorung La but climb slowly upwards. Our next goal is the beautiful mountain lake Tilicho Lake. The lake offers fantastic views of the mountain world we are in. We walk across the Meso Kanto La to the end of our journey, Jomsom. We walk across the Meso Kanto La to the end of our journey, Jomsom. A twin otter brings us back to civilization.
